It has become a tradition now. Carlos Alcaraz has become such a popular figure in world tennis that fans do not come just to watch his tennis. They are simply won over by his mannerisms and try their level best to be a part of the champion’s life.
It was a very tense match in the 2026 Laver Cup. Alcaraz had just played one of his best tennis games to get the better of Taylor Fritz, bringing Team Europe back into contention of winning the trophy. Former tennis player Sam Querrey had just begun the post-match interview, with the question being on the dealing of pressure.
Before Carlitos could reply, someone shouted from the crowd, “Marry my sister, Carlos”. The Spaniard was taken aback and instantly replied, “I am too young still”. He then tried to give the answer to Querrey’s question but understandably forgot, as he was distracted.
This is not the first time this is happening on a tennis court with Alcaraz. In the opening Grand Slam of the year, at the Australian Open, after winning his third-round match over French Corentin Moutet, Carlos was showered with a hattrick of marriage proposals, which went thus –
“Marry my daughter”
“Marry my sister-in-law”
“Marry me”
This happened during a live match, so it was tough for the man from Murcia to keep his composure. But he held his calm, sometimes not reacting while at other times, joining the crowd in laughing, but at the same time, not losing his focus from the match.
Such kind of stuff might seem amusing to some but it does affect the concentration of a player. Maybe, with the repetition of the jokes, Carlos might have got used to it, especially seeing this everywhere now, such as exhibition matches and while signing autographs.
The 23-year-old 7-time Grand Slam champion comes from a family focussed on tennis. His father, Gonzalez had played tennis but did not pursue it as a profession. Born as the second child in a family of four sons, Carlitos started playing at the age of four. He is frequently accompanied to tournaments by his father and elder brother Alvaro, who is also his hitting partner and assistant coach.
As far as official statements are concerned, Carlos Alcaraz has repeatedly made it clear that his focus presently is only on playing tennis and keep on improving in his career. In 21 Grand Slam tournaments, he has won 7 – that means, a winning record of 1 every 3 Slams. The Spaniard generally is seen enjoying his matches, as much like teenagers do, while playing exhibition matches, but rest assured, his focus is unparalleled – clearly a sign of the making of a legend.
